Buy a ting like this
Should contain, in this order, cherries without pips, water & sugar; no chemical sweeteners!
Best with sour-bitter cherries or with bitter-sour ones
All ingredients at room temperature
Drain cherries & save liquid
Dissolve yeast in liquid
Mix in flour untill nearly a dough (so: just still mixable with a whisker)
Add a pich of salt & mix in
Beat an egg with some sugar untill velvet & fold in
Oint oven dish with some sunflower oil, skoop in dough, spread evenly & let raise; height of dough/size of dish a bit under the diameter of a cherry
Push cherries in dough & bake for about 15 minutes in a hot oven; continue baking another 20 minutes in a moderate oven
Let cool & serve with whipped cream

Made that tonight so wanted to put a link here to a recipe in English
No recipe but I did find: myself...
Well, recipe then
In water with coco (milk, "butter", shredded), some salam and salt cook cabbage leaves until foldable
Add herbs & spices to ground pork (of half pork half beef), a bit like this
(I also add some cardamom, some red curry paste which you can buy ready made; preferable if no fresh ingredients can be found, & some ground cumin)
Forgot to mention that first I boil lontong in the coco water, but plain rice is OK too
Make packets with meat in cabbage leaves
Put in a stewing pan, loose side down
Mix a part of the coco water with curry paste, pour in, bring slowly to the boil & cook packets slowly for 20 minutes
Heat cubes of lontong around the packets or serve with plain rice or with nasi kuning

This recipe is from Java; on Lombok it`s made with goat meat, hence the local name, bèhbuttok...

Remembered having eaten this in Singapore; not dangerous it said at another site; well, the guy that had to get it out of the aquarium had his whole arm sliced open; don`t order it, tastes like rubber...

American sauce is one of the most famous culinary mistakes; Sauce Armoricaine > Sauce Americaine; most famous recipe is for lobster & very good too with Angler fish tail which has a lobster taste & is used as fake lobster
Armoricaine sauce is a thing like Rouille, this being used to flavour fish soup

Anyway, I prepare the spider crab like this:
Cook in already boiling seawater
Take flesh (not intestines) from shell and legs and keep the orange part (corail, the sex part) & liquid from shell (strain through fine sieve) apart
Fry onion & garlic in olive oil
Flamber with Armagnac, add some dry white wine & body liquid
Boil down
Add mustard, tarragon, Worcestershire, pepper & tomato sauce
Boil down again
Add meat & corail & cook shortly, stirring
Fill cleaned shell with mixture & top with bread crumbs
Brown in hot oven

The history of Colt of course goes parallel with the history of the (hand)gun
First handguns were muzzle-loaders; powder in the muzzle, cotton, lead ball (very dangerous; the scraping of the bullit against the barrel might ignite some powder) & the powder ignited by flint, later by a small powder filled cap that fitted on a kind of small chimney coming out of the chamber
Then came the breech-loaders (another one here); these had primitive wax paper cartridges, generally made by the gunner, and ignited by the mentioned caps
After that of course came modern percussion, the ignition being a part of the cartridge
Must add here that between breech-loaders & modern percussion existed the pinfire system; already with cartridges but with an ignition pin to the side instead of in the centre. No Colt found but see a pinfire handgun here (one before last), together with other Confederate States fine arms

Well, continued, the program was continued.

Two weeks ago I wrote on Julius!

Now the program was about Flavia from Uganda. When the program makers first met her, five years ago, she was 11 and being a mother & father for her two youngher brothers.
Her mother, father & two other brothers had died short before from AIDS. See her in 1998 (scroll down & click Portret van Flavia).
She is showing the graves and later on tells of her dreams: a stone house for her brothers ("with the walls white inside, with doors") and that she wants to become a nurse as to help AIDS patients ("I have promised that to my mother just before she died").

Five years later the stone house is there (with the help of the Dutch organisation People in Need).
And Flavia has nearly finished her school, after which she shall go to another school to become a nurse.
See her some weeks ago (more English there now); open the 1998 link again and click smalband (slow connection) or breedband (fast connection). New part starts at 1.30 minutes, Flavia part at 5.10.
When not at school she is already attending AIDS patients, as you shall see.
At the end, asked for her dreams now, she shyly answers "Having nice clothes for Christmas".

(about yesterday)
I don`t do that much & I don`t like reading all this talkity-talk either. (Searching for sites on the famous Spanish book "El Lazarillo de Tormes" this morning I found this site. Thats talkity-talk. Not Howells on Lazarillo but Howells on Howells.)
Did listen to talkity-talk though, yesterday evening.

Atomz (see banner), which allows me to see what people have been searching, using the in-blog search engine, showed similar results.

Had Spaghetti agli, olio peperoncini yesterday (one of the recipes on this nice page, All` Arrabiata being another favourite) & a bottle of some Chardonnay. (On not drinking Chardonnay see ABC! or YAC!, this last one somewhere down in page)

Told Matt (see link to his blog at right) his last posting had given me ideas.
"Burried alive" f.e. Searched yesterday & just found a therapy might you suffer from the idea.
Or "Art theft". A very famous one is the theft of a panel of the Lam God`s (God`s Lamb; click open het drieluik, open the triptych).

"oliebollen" now, the big 2003 posting will be for tomorrow.

See recipe for oliebollen (pronounce OHH-lee-BOL-uh; "oil balls", & that`s what it is, man...) here.
Personally I don`t soak the raisins, I also add "sukade" (can`t find the English word; a kind of fat skinned citrus of which the peel is boiled in sugar water), I use 3/4 of white wheat flour & 1/4 of buckwheat flour, I use cane sugar & NEVER add lemon juice...
Belgians do it finer; they first simmer the milk with a split vanilla bean, they add the yolk of the eggs first & just before frying they add the whipped whites.

How is it made? Take two slices of bread, put cheese & boiled ham between & toast
In the old days in a kind of waffle iron, & nowadays in electric stuff like waffle irons or like a sandwich toaster
You don`t have a thing like that? No problem; read how students do it
Put butter on two slices of white bread; put cheese & ham in between BUT with butter outside; melt butter in a low skillet, put tosti in & put a small pan with water (weight about one pound) on top of tosti; fry till underside of tosti is golden brown; turn tosti (if you can`t find it it`s adhered to the underside of the pan), put pan on again etc.
Very good: put strong mustard on the bread too (inside), sprinkle with tarragon en prepare with cheese only
Other tosti`s`: cheese & pineapple; cheese & salami

The Rotterdam Zoo has since some weeks a basin with herrings. This may not sound spectacular but it is, since herring is very difficult to keep in an aquarium. & as a matter of fact having these herrings there it was discovered that they communicate by farting.

died 104 years ago
Father Damian was a Belgian missionary who cared for the lepers at Moloka`i (click the pics; some are very touching)
What is Leprosy?
I have to add something here, having worked with leper in Indonesia.
Father Damian died of lepra, so was I not afraid of getting lepra?
No, a healthy person will not be affected. Affected are those that live in poverty, are not well fed & live surrounded by dirt.
We set up small villages for these people (who were thrown out of theit native villages) where they learned to keep clean, to grow vegetables & to raise chicken.
In the beginning we were obliged to have barbed wire around these villages as to prevent the lepers from escaping.
The whole thing became a succes, also because the Indonesian government, in one of their few acts that made sense, started a campain about lepra not being contagious.
(The main base of this campain was to force schools to accept children with lepra.)
I wrote that the whole thing became a succes & indeed, when the barbed wire was not obliged anymore we left it there as to prevent people from outside stealing the chicken.
We also had the food in the catholic Medan hospital prepared from the products from the leper villages, telling every patient where the food came from.

As far as I know by now there are three kinds, as far as freeware is concerned:
A] Counter is shown on page & visitors can see statistics; see Retro Stats; I dont`t have that but see Matt`s site; link at the right
B] Counter is shown on page but statistics cannot be seen by visitors; see SeeHits & see button at the right (number of visitors can be hidden too)
C] Nothing to be seen & thus no statistics for visitors either; see NedStat

I have NedStat too, & after commenting with Matt we came to a simple conclusion: one should have them all; they all have their pro`s & contra`s (AND different stats...)
